Compatibility Note: This 661-5476 battery is only compatible with the MacBook Pro 15 inch laptop models listed on the bottom of this page, including models made between 2009 and Early 2011. Apple made two different generations of 15" MacBook Pros in Early 2011 which take different batteries.

Check your model number and the manufacture date to make sure you order the right battery. Your battery should match the picture above and the part number "661-5476". You can find the model number on the bottom of your MacBook. Additionally, check your MacBook's manufacture date by going to the Apple Icon and selecting About this Mac.

If your laptop was made in 2011, it is important to note that Apple produced two different generations of MacBooks. This battery is compatible with the model that was going out of production and the next generation was just coming into production. Here you can find the battery for the next generation of MacBook Pro 15" (early 2011-mid 2012).

To further complicate things, if the model printed on the bottom of the laptop is A1286, there are two different batteries that use the same model number. If your battery snaps into place, this is not the correct battery. This battery is only compatible with the internal battery in MacBook Pros.
